Surf Air Mobility by the numbers, a software contract worth twelve million and negative equity of 42.5 million
A software contract worth twelve million dollars and equity of minus 42.5 million. Which figures should be read first at this company.

The short version
- Surf Air Mobility reported second quarter 2026 revenue of 29.5 million dollars and a net loss of 28.1 million dollars.
- Equity is negative at minus 42.5 million dollars, cash stands at 18.5 million dollars, and 11.1 million dollars of federal excise taxes are overdue.
- The widely quoted software contract is worth up to twelve million dollars over three years, roughly three percent of one quarter's revenue.
The quarterly figures
The company reported revenue of 29.5 million dollars for the second quarter of 2026 on 10 August. That is up eight percent from 27.4 million dollars a year earlier and 15 percent above the first quarter. Its own guidance had been 27 to 30 million dollars.
The two business lines moved in opposite directions. Private charter revenue doubled to 12.1 million dollars, a gain of 101 percent, with about 67 percent more departures. Scheduled service fell 19 percent to 17.4 million dollars, which the company attributes to a deliberate exit from unprofitable routes.
The net loss came to 28.1 million dollars after 28.0 million dollars in the same quarter last year. For the first half it adds up to 48.4 million dollars. The adjusted loss before interest, taxes and depreciation was 10.5 million dollars.
Loss per share improved from 1.34 dollars to 29 cents. That looks like a leap but is not one. The absolute loss stayed flat, only the share count rose. Several analyses point this out explicitly.
The balance sheet
Three items belong together. Cash stood at 18.5 million dollars. Equity was negative at minus 42.5 million dollars. And 11.1 million dollars of federal excise taxes were outstanding and reported as in arrears.
Negative equity means liabilities exceed assets. That is not in itself grounds for insolvency, since what counts is the ability to pay bills. It does mean the company cannot continue without ongoing outside funding. Tax arrears also weigh more heavily than unpaid supplier invoices, because they can hardly be negotiated.
According to one data provider the quarterly report carries a going concern note. On the positive side, cash outflow from operations fell to 13.4 million dollars in the first half after 26.4 million dollars a year earlier.
What is documented about the software contract
The core of the much quoted description is accurate but smaller than it sounds. The company has won a first enterprise customer for its software. The contract is worth up to twelve million dollars over an initial term of three years.
The words up to and over three years carry the weight. Fully drawn, that is about one million dollars per quarter, or roughly three percent of quarterly revenue of 29.5 million dollars. The work with Palantir has been extended to engineering services and sales support, and further products are due in the fourth quarter of 2026.
One number cuts the other way. Technology and development spending fell to 1.8 million dollars in the quarter from 2.7 million dollars. At a company whose stated future rests on a software platform, a drop of one third is open to two readings.
Funding and the listing
On 24 July 2026 the company received a notice from the New York Stock Exchange for failing the minimum share price rule. The annual meeting approved a charter amendment enabling a reverse split, explicitly justified by the need to restore compliance.
In July 2026 about 47 million dollars of senior secured convertible notes were rolled into two new instruments. Added to that were 21.6 million dollars of secured asset backed notes, a credit facility guarantee of 14 million dollars and a facility of 30 million dollars. Outstanding convertible principal fell by 64 percent and monthly amortisation payments by up to 50 percent.
For the full year the company sticks to revenue of 128 to 138 million dollars. After six months it has 55.1 million dollars. Reaching the lower end would take about 73 million dollars in the second half, a good third more than the first.
Frequently asked questions
Is Surf Air Mobility a software company
No. Around 99 percent of revenue comes from flying, meaning regional flights and private charter. The first software contract, if fully drawn, equals about three percent of one quarter's revenue.
Why did loss per share fall while the loss itself did not
Loss per share is the total loss divided by the number of shares. If the share count rises while the loss stays flat, the per share figure drops on its own. For the individual shareholder that is not an improvement but a dilution of their stake.
What does negative equity of 42.5 million dollars mean
Liabilities exceed assets by that amount. On paper the company would be over indebted if it were wound up today. As long as it can pay its bills there is no insolvency, but it stays dependent on continuous outside funding.
Does a reverse split solve the share price problem
Only formally. Several old shares become one new share, the price rises accordingly and the value of the business is unchanged. The exchange requirement is met. If the business does not improve, the same step may become necessary again later.
What decides the next few quarters
Whether operations start bringing in more than they cost before funding options narrow. There is real progress, including doubled charter revenue and halved cash outflow. It sits alongside negative equity, tax arrears and a going concern note.
